The Michael G. DeGroote Institute of Infectious Disease research recently published an article detailing some of the seminal work PhD student Adrian Forsythe and Dr. Xu are conducing on the pathogenic fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans. This fungus is responsible for causing white nose syndrome, resulting in the deaths of thousands of bats. The goal of this study is to understand how P. destructans is adapting to different ecological environments as it spreads across North America and to develop methods for controlling the spread of this disease using a probiotic approach.
